During a Foundation Studies in Cheltenham and a Fine Art degree at Newcastle University (1999-2003), I became increasingly fascinated by the use of layering, light and subtle texture. Being inspired by the works of Helen Frankenthaler, Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, I developed an abstract style using varnish, oil and resin.

Trekking south, exhibiting in Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire along the way, I settled in Devon in 2013 and was particularly moved by the drama of the moors and coastline. My style has evolved to a more semi-figurative interpretation, using acrylics, pastels, oils and more recently a return to the beloved resin. Although my paintings vary in execution, the running thread of using colour and texture to create a sense of place remains at the heart of my pieces.

Since moving to Devon, I have been lucky enough to share my work with many different audiences; being part of exhibitions at Torquay (Artizan gallery), Bovey Tracey (The Bracken Gallery, Paradiso Arts), Mortenhampstead (Green Hill Arts), Exmouth (Sea Dog Gallery), North Devon (Appeldore RNLI show), and have had mini solo exhibitions at the The Seaglass Gallery in Lympstone, Canonteign Falls and the South Gate Gallery in Exeter.

Alongside my painted work and stemming from my love of life drawing, I have been drawn to the intimacy of the human form. Using charcoal, I depicted my own children and those of friends and family and subsequently children further afield, including commissions from Singapore and Australia. In a similar vein to my painted work, I strive to capture both the subject and the feeling of an immediate environment.
